DENiM will develop an interoperable digital intelligence platform to enable a collaborative approach to industrial energy management. DENiM provides an integrated toolchain to provision advanced digital services including secure edge connectivity leveraging IoT, data analytics, digital twin, energy modelling and automation culminating in the delivery of continuous energy impact assessment, together with energy control and optimisation across existing production facilities, processes and machines. DENiM is based on three fundamental strategies to enable energy efficient management of manufacturing systems:

Systems need to collaborate across technologies, industries, and responsibilities to uncover energy flows and unlock energy efficiencies

DENiM will ease integration and communication using digital technologies as a key enabler to improve interoperability and cooperation between technologies. In addition, DENiM will support cooperation across the value chain through shared data, knowledge, awareness and facilitate the creation of data-driven workflows between stakeholders to address energy efficiency. DENiM will address digital skills gap by promoting an interdisciplinary approach across the manufacturing, technology and education sectors.
Continuous performance auditing is essential to ensure precise predictions and efficient energy target management.
Currently, accurate measurement and verification of energy savings is one of the main barriers to the delivery of energy efficiency projects in the industrial sector and remains a barrier to the growth of the energy services industry. DENiM aims to unlock this data to realize systematic continuous performance auditing using analytics, digital twin and robust assessment methodologies (e.g., online LCA, LCCA).
Manufacturing systems must evolve and adapt to changing operation conditions, requirements & system configurations to support & promote sustainability.
DENiM will promote the use of existing standards, methodologies and best practices and provide supporting mechanisms for manufacturers to be “future ready” and facilitate a shift to more energy-aware systems.
